Spb Kiosk Engine is an enterprise tool used to create custom Pocket PC solutions.

How it works

Initially, you get Spb Kiosk Engine Builder, a desktop application that allows you to build Spb Kiosk Engine packages configured according to your needs. You can specify one or several programs which will run in kiosk mode and your secret unlock code. Spb Kiosk supports both native and .NET programs.

Kiosk Builder produces a package (CAB file and a PC-side installation program) which you can install to Pocket PC devices together with your application. This package will provide kiosk mode for your application. The user will not be able to run any other applications and change any settings on the device.

Spb Kiosk Engine prevents the users from switching to other applications using hardware buttons. After the device has been reset, the engine automatically starts your application in kiosk mode. Many other methods of closing your kiosk mode application or switching to another one have been thoroughly examined and prevented.

If you configured several applications to run in kiosk mode, Spb Kiosk Engine provides the means to switch between them using Kiosk Start menu (which replaces standard Start menu) and Kiosk Switcher (which appears instead of Today screen).

Spb Kiosk Engine supports admin mode which allows you to gain full sccess to the device. This is useful if you need to fix something or to change settings after Spb Kiosk was deployed. To enter admin mode tap and hold the stylus for 10 seconds anywhere on the screen and then enter your secret unlock code (specified in Kiosk Builder). You can also access Logon screen from Kiosk Switcher menu.

Customization

In Spb Kiosk Engine Builder you can customize the following options before generating a new kiosk package:

• Unlock code
• One or several applications to be executed in kiosk mode
• Additional CAB to be installed together with kiosk CAB (e. g. CAB file of your custom application)
• List of allowed background processes
• Weather to disable taskbar or not
• Advanced options (disable ActiveSync connectivity, disable phone, disable autorun from meory card etc.)

You can build a deployment package with customized options once and deploy it to many devices.

License

You can download Spb Kiosk Engine Builder - a desktop application that generates kiosk packages. After registering your version, you can create different packages with different settings. Spb Kiosk Engine price includes 100 runtime Pocket PC licenses. So you can install built kiosk runtime to 100 Pocket PC devices.

With an unregistered version of Spb Kiosk Engine Builder you can only generate kiosk packages with built-in time restriction. These packages provide kiosk mode on a device for 15 days.
